Before It’s Gone

When trouble strikes, when sickness invades, when heartbreak ruins…. that’s when we realize what we had. When we start finding the value in what we do have.

But why do we wait to be thankful until we don’t have it anymore?

I struggle with finding the beauty in the little things. Often, I get into a rut and complain (about pretty much everything—ask my family.)

Slowly, quite slowly, I’m learning to appreciate the things I have. At this moment. Right now, I have a house to keep me warm in the forty-below weather, a family who is healthy and loving, and a body that could, theoretically, run for a while. (I mean, the last one is a bit of a stretch, but you know what I’m saying. 😉 )

This is a reminder for myself as much as it is for you.

So let’s change it up a little.

Let’s be grateful for things before they’re gone.

Let’s appreciate the things we have, even if they’re small—a hot cup of coffee, the ability to text a friend (which is actually pretty crazy if you think about it), the smell of clean clothes after they’ve come out of the dryer.

I’m reading Crazy Love by Francis Chan right now and it’s incredible to realize that worshipping God isn’t just singing songs and sending Him prayers every now and then. You can worship God by being grateful for what you have and admiring the things He’s created.

Here’s a video by Francis Chan called Stop and Think. And… just watch it. You won’t regret it!

So, I have a question for you.

What are you thankful for today? What is something that makes your day a little bit better?

Drop a comment to let me know! I’d love to see what you guys come up with, because like I said, I struggle with being thankful and it will be encouraging for me and others! Thanks for reading and may your day be filled with little things that are totally awesome. 😉

Blessings,

Alabama Rose

I’m grateful for the ability to do online university, and to do a course I love, and to have nice professors and decent classmates, and that overall my education has been a nice experience.
Wow. That makes me rethink all my complaining about college ;P

Haha yeah, that's me too! Now that I'm trying to be more grateful, it's actually pretty amusing what I complain about. 😂
