Character Interview: Carlos

This morning I’m back, bringing another character from Oxygen along with me! Carlos. This guy… well, he gets on my nerves sometimes. But the story would be drastically different if he wasn’t involved (almost as drastic as the differences in personalities between Carlos and Mizuko. 😉 You’ll see what I mean.)

Meet Carlos

Interviewer: Good morning to all! Today we are live with none other than Carlos Moreno, son of President Moreno of the Dome!

Carlos: *grins and takes a seat* Hello, Mr. Interviewer. How are you doing?

Interviewer: *laughs heartily* Very good, my boy, but I should be the one asking you the same.

Carlos: Oh, I’m doing great, thanks! I’m normally pretty good—the only time I really get down in the dumps is when my teacher is mad at me. Or, actually, you know what happened in the Dome, right? When the—

Interviewer: SPOILERS! *reddens* Sorry, ahem, we don’t want to get into all that, you understand. Just try not to mention what all took place.

Carlos: Oh, yes, of course. I always forget we aren’t supposed to mention that. I mean, so much happened. But the reason I forget is probably just because I have memory loss—at least, that’s what I’ve been told. *mumbles* Mostly by Nicolás.

Interviewer: Ah yes, Nicolás. An interesting man, no? Well, we’ll be interviewing him later on as well. Right now, I’d like to ask you about your childhood. What was the best thing about being the son of the President?

Carlos: Oh, all of it! It was so fun getting to see all the guards and servants and exploring the Palace. We always had such fun times! My friend and I. But then he left—I’m not even sure where he went. Luckily, he came back, though! It was always much more fun to explore with him rather than alone. So that was definitely the best part about my dad being the President.

Interviewer: I’m glad you had fun in the Palace! It does sound like a lot of fun. I understand that you were raised by your father, who was the President. Whatever happened to your mother?

Carlos: Mi Mamá murió.

Interviewer: That’s the Palace dialect, is it not? I’m sorry—I’ve been trying to learn it, but I have yet to fully understand it.

Carlos: Right! Sometimes I slip into it accidentally. I said that my mother died, when I was young. She got sick and lost her memory, and was bedridden for awful months on end. Of course I don’t remember much of it, but I do know it was horrible. My father had trouble in his meetings and everything, so bad as to the point that the council eventually hired a Vice president to substitute in my father’s place.

Interviewer: I’m so sorry about your mother. That’s just terrible. Now, is it true that there was an attempted assassination on your father?

Carlos: Yes, that’s quite true. He was giving a speech to the people of the Dome, and his bodyguard—well, I guess I shouldn’t go much into that either, should I?

Interviewer: I suppose not. How is your relationship with Mizuko, the one from the slums?

Carlos: Mizuko! He’s a funny one—very quiet but it’s always nice to see him! My favourite part about him is how tall he is. Do you think I’ll be that tall in a few years? My teacher says I’ll look more like my father, so I wouldn’t be very tall. I mean, he’s not short, but… not extremely tall or anything. Which is odd, because my uncle is tall indeed! Maybe I’ll take after him instead.

Interviewer: Quite interesting! So, living in the Dome, there must be a lot of interesting things that happen, no?

Carlos: *beaming* Definitely! I’m always able to make friends with the servants, and matchmaking is probably my favourite pastime, aside from exploring. One time I even matched a dairy girl with the weapon’s assistant! What a show that was. They ended up married and now with two children! Their first baby is named after me, since I was the one who set them up.

Interviewer: *laughs* That is so sweet! You must be very proud. Well, that’s all we have time for today, but thank you very much for joining us.

Carlos: Alright then. That was so much fun! *stands up* Maybe we can do it again soon?

Interviewer: I certainly hope so. Have a good one!

Carlos: Thank you! Adíos, everybody! Have a good day!

And that is my little character. Between him, Mizuko, and Nicolás (who you all have yet to meet), the dynamics are entertaining, to say the least.

When I ended Mizuko’s interview, I wrote:

Well, I can’t say Mizuko’s the chattiest kid in the Dome, but… he has his good qualities.

Character Interview: Mizuko

Now it’s the opposite!

Well, Carlos is definitely the chattiest kid in the Dome, but… he has his good qualities. 😉

Now that you’ve met him, what’s your first impression? Do you think he’d annoy you or entertain you (or both)? Do you have any characters that are similar to him?

  1. Hm, well, I was expecting him to be the snobby type of rich kid, but he doesn’t seem that way. He seems nice! And like me, he seems to love to rant, so I trust him… Temporarily.
