10 Things I Love About Summer

Ok, summer is not my thing. The heat, the bugs… but mostly the heat.

(I’m not really sure why, but for some reason I do not handle it well.) During the hot days, all I want to do is curl up in our chilly basement with a book! However, there are things that I enjoy. So my sister told me to make a list of ten things I love about summer! I’m not sure if I can get to ten, but eh, we’ll see. πŸ˜‰

[My brother when he saw this post… trying to imitate me: “One thing I love about summer…. is the end.” 🀣 Yes, so accurate!!!!]

1. Swimming

This is the first one on my list because it’s awesome. If swimming in the lake wasn’t a thing, I’m pretty sure I’d live in Siberia right now.

2. Going Camping with Family

Camping is SO. MUCH. FUN. Late nights, tents, food over the fire, fishing on the lake… it’s so special. And great bonding time with the family. I mean, yeah, it’s not always perfect, but it’s so worth it.

3. Bible Camp

Every year since I was in grade three, I’ve been going to a bible camp a few hours away. Every summer for eight years! Last year was my first time being a counselor, and it was AWESOME! I always get so excited for it!

4. Iced Capps

Anybody else?? These things are like… magical drinks from heaven! (I mean, they’re also poison to our body, but…) A trip to Tim Hortons during a hot day always lifts my spirits. Also, last year I got a recipe to make our own, so that’s been super fun!

5. Outside Games with Friends

We always have friends and cousins over to play games like Peek Around the Corner and Prisoners Base. We get sweaty and out of breath, and then we go hop in the lake to cool down. Those are always fun moments.

6. Biking

My brothers sometimes play baseball at the diamond, so then I bike over to watch them play (not often, thoughβ€”biking makes me exhausted 😝)

7. Boating/Fishing/Tubing

This is always a blast. It’s so nice to go out in the evening and cool off, because honestly the heat gets to me. But tubing is so awesome! (A little scary, but that’s the fun part… most of the time. ;)) And sometimes we go out on the boat early in the morning and catch fish to eat for breakfast. Livin’ off the land, eh?

8. The Beautiful Plants Everywhere

Everything is so vibrant in the summer! Green, pink, white! My favourite plant would have to be the crab-apple trees. They taste amazing. 🀩 And they’re super sour, so I always pucker up! 😜

9. Basketball

Ok, I miss hockey SO much in the summer, but basketball can be fun too. Baseball… not as much. I sorta had a bad experience with that sport and now I’m scared of the ball haha.😝 Anyway, in the summer I can sometimes convince my brothers to play a game of 21 (basketball) with me. Of course, I only win like 4% of the time, but it’s still enjoyable!

10. The Beach

Our beaches here aren’t incredible, but they are definitely worth having. The days where it’s really hot and a bunch of families meet up at the beach with lunch and swimsuits and little kids… *sighs* Ok now I’m just getting wistful. Whose idea was this, anyway?? Oh, right, my sister’s. Because I complain about summer too much. πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ Anywhooo… the beach is very fun. Well worth it.

That’s my list! I hope my sister approves. πŸ˜‰ I love my winter, with the gorgeous snowflakes and skating and everything, but summer is also nice. And besides, if I had winter all the time I’d probably get sick of it. (Probably is the key word.) Siberia still sounds tempting, though. πŸ˜‰

What do you guys think? What’s your favourite thing about summer and what are you looking forward to most?

  1. I love this post! It was so (reluctantly :D) cheerful. I totally agree with you about the heat, but I actually don’t love winter that much. I love the snow and sledding and cozy blankets and cuddle time, but I hate bundling up and wearing shoes, and I miss all the greenery and vibrant life. I guess I’m just glad we have four seasons. I think spring is my favorite! I love all the new life and just watching everything bloom and grow, and the sweet smells in the air . *contented sigh*

    1. Aw, thank you! πŸ™‚ And yes, I’m so thankful for four seasons! It’s so nice to have variety!
Mm, yep, sledding and snow and cuddle time! One of my favourites on top of that is hot chocolate with a book and fireplace. It’s so wonderful!
What do you like to do in the summer?

      1. I have never lived in a house with a fireplace, but I really really want to. So cozy!!
Swimming definitely tops my list, camping is a very very close second, and we hardly ever fish, but I love doing that too. Spending time with my family outside just playing games or interacting with the animals (we have horses right beside us and a small farm with goats, chickens, ducks, and rabbits plus cats and a dog. I also like riding my bike, but like you said, it tires me out.
Also, I love sitting on the porch during thunderstorms!

      2. Wow, that’s so cool you have all those animals. That sounds so awesome! 😍
Ooh, thunderstorms are so fun! Not sure why, but I love them. Haha 😁

  2. How you feel about summer is a little how I feel about winter. I don’t mind the heat (too much) but I hate being cold. Fall is a little depressing for me, knowing that summer won’t be back for another 9 months and is it going to get colder before it gets warmer. Summers are so busy with plans and activities that I love and it flies by way too fast. This year I finally found someone who shares my feelings on summer and it felt good to have a partner in crime (we are a rare breed😁).
